In February/March 2024 some category names got changed in the Dutch Wikisource, and earlier this March this was changed in the last module/template. Among the categories that were renamed are:
- From Categorie:Proefgelezen (old) to Categorie:Wikisource:Proefgelezen (new)
- From Categorie:Gecontroleerd (old) to Categorie:Wikisource:Gecontroleerd (new)
If I do such a change in Wikipedia, after some hours this change is visible in the pages and the category would be empty. In (the Dutch) Wikisource all pages in the 'Pagina' namespace show the right category (so far seen), but looking in the old category they are still there. In the 'Index' namespace the pages also showed the old category, but we did a nulledit on all these pages to make sure the right category is seen on the page. Now there there are still some 23 000 Pagina pages that need their cache to be emptied to get them out of the old categories.
With this name change of categories, I also found some pages that were added to categories that were changed maybe 5-6 years ago, but still the cache wasn't emptied. (On all of these we could found a nulledit has been done, so no example left.)
And my colleague reported that when he renames a group of pages, he also need to do a nulledit on all the pages to clear the cache.
This situation seems to be caused by the proofread extension, which is a vital component of Wikisource. (This extension uses Module:Index and uses this module on every page, while if you edit a page and look in the section 'Templates used on this page' at the bottom this module is not shown, while it is used. I mention this as to me this seems to be related to the cache not getting empty.)
The bug: pages do not get refreshed (cache emptied) after changes, resulting in that for example old category names and old page titles are still shown.
As this situation is maybe complex to change, I split this bug in two requests:
- Short term: Please empty the cache of all the pages/do nulledit, so that the changes take full effect (including the two old categories getting empty).
- Long term: Please find a solution so that we can avoid doing nulledits all the time to make changes getting into effect.
Thanks!
