(I'm creating this as a separate task on the Wikimedia-Site-requests board to test a hypothesis I made at T363250#9938035 that a separate task for this will result in it actually getting done)

They come from the request page itself, i.e https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikisource_Georgian says "Project logo File:Wikisource-logo-ka.svg". inside the collapsed settings I haven't investigated how they got there, but I would assume so

Also someone should probably use a SVG editor to extract wordmark and tagline files from the logo if one isn't specified. And the RFL process should be told to tell people to upload those too. But this entire process is a mess and I'm not inclined to do that.

For Malay WIkisource, yes the community consensus has been reached. Please refer to T369052 or https://ms.wikisource.org/wiki/Wikisource:Kedai_Kopi#Penetapan_ruang_nama_(namespace),_logo_dan_tanda_nama_(wordmark)_untuk_Wikisumber_Bahasa_Melayu for more information.

In the past initial configuration for new wikis has been set without (AFAIK) any formal agreement on the wiki itself, The source is places like https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikisource_Georgian#Settings where the active contributors to the incubator were pinged and one of them filled in the initial settings. Given the unusual context here I would call that sufficient discussion.

I would agree. This is basically part of the post-creation work for those wikis. They were requested by langcom like this, so I also think we do not need to ask for additional community consensus.

It doesn't seem like Superpes has been active recently, so I'm reassigning this to myself to get the other logos done. This task seems to have been mostly inactive for almost two months and it'd be nice to finally get this done for the communities of those wikis.

I'm taking Pppery and Zabe's word that we don't need additional consensus for this. For reference, I've verified that all the language requests have the logo SVG from the task description linked in each request's Settings:

I've extracted the wordmark and tagline from each logo SVG and also uploaded those to Commons (now linked in task description). These are all sourced from the original logo, so I don't think there'd be any additional issue there. I've also resized some of the logos (w/ some help from Robertsky) to fit the aspect ratio requirement of the logo script. If there's any issue with those images, they can always be fixed on Commons and redeployed.

Filing each patch in a moment. I'll schedule them for the Aug 20 UTC late backport window.

Tried to deploy with Clare earlier, but there were issues with some of the files:

  • Wikisource Georgian's wordmark has some untrimmed spaces on the side which is causing it to overflow into the search bar. The font of the wordmark also differs from the one on the logo; is this intentional? Might have to follow up with the uploader and/or reupload the mark as extracted from the logo.
  • Wiktionary Karakalpak's logo was too far to the left. There appeared to be some untrimmed excess on the right side from even before the file was resized.

In the interest of safety and double-checking, I decided not to proceed with attempting to deploy the rest of the patches. However, taking a look at the image files for the rest of the wikis, those should be fine and good to go. I'll triple check again tomorrow (a few hours). Will refile kawikisource and kaawiktionary patches, and then upload new patchsets for the other wikis as needed.
