User story & summary:
As a newcomer, I don't want to receive image suggestions for disambiguation pages, because I don't yet know enough policy to understand that these pages should not include images.
As a patroller / moderator, I don't want newcomers to make bad edits, because it takes time to clean up.
Background:
Image suggestions should NOT include any suggestions for adding images to a disambiguation page.
There has been some feedback about this issue on Arabic Wikipedia. Translation:
Hi, I noticed some disambiguation pages like تبديل عرض جدول المحتويات طابية (توضيح) appear for users of the image suggestion feature, I suggest excluding pages appearing in Category :Disambiguation Pages from this task via Private:Community_Settings/GrowthSuggestedEdits . Thank you.
Task scope:
- Decide on technical approach, discuss with Structured Data team if necessary.
- Communicate approach with mobile app team (as the apps also have an image suggestion task)
- Complete acceptance criteria:
Acceptance Criteria:
✅ Given I'm a newcomer completing the article-level OR section-level "add an image" task,
When I receive an image suggestion,
Then it is never a suggestion for a disambiguation page
We already attempt to remove disambiguation pages from Image Suggestions, but we essentially do that by using that article’s associated Wikidata to determine if the P31 property (instance of) is set to Q4167410 (the Wikidata QID for disambiguation page).
In other words, we may occasionally suggest an image on a disambiguation page if this wikidata info doesn’t exist / isn’t linked.
However, communities can further improve image suggestions by adding information to:
Special:CommunityConfiguration/GrowthSuggestedEdits
Communities have the option to add templates and categories to "avoid" for each image task, and then the task will never suggest images for articles that include those specific templates or categories.
