Done for Arabic.

Unless there is a strong reason to say "AI" in this case, I suggest you consider alternatives. "Machine" can be one. The algorithm behind the feature is not AI (strictly speaking). Even if by some stretch we can consider it an AI, it may not always remain such in future updates to the models. We will remain more accurate and gain more flexibility by using a different term than ML or AI.
Speaking about alternatives, "computer" or "control" are less "sophisticated" than "AI".

Hi @ppelberg
Questions
- 1. When and how do you think people at your wiki (ar, cs and hu) who have enabled the Discussiontools Beta Feature [i] will expect to be made aware that the New Discussion Tool is available?
- in my opinion, for ar wiki, while people are adding a new topic, they expect the regular tool(s), but they will notice the new tool during the normal use. It will be an efficient way to be aware of the availability of the NDT. A warning/explaining message could be added to the NDT when it is triggered in the first time.

@Dyolf77_WMF confirmed that he did eight edits and got eight tags on arwiki.
3 more edits today on ar wikipedia and all are tagged.

@matmarex yes this is intentional, I wanted some space between the symbol and the username.

Oct 6 2020
Good to know, thanks! I made a first test and seems that there is no more the </nowiki> tag when using the right arrow symbol ◀.
Also I did a couple of links in this test page, I think that's correct!
Also I agree with @alanajjar about the Arabic (and) Waw و , Arabic typography says that there is no be a space after Waw, that's why we should have the link only for the word without Waw (like in the second image by Alaa).
Oct 4 2020
Thank you @Dyolf77_WMF, I think that answers my question… Just to be perfectly clear, those characters should be included within the link when written before link syntax?
Oct 2 2020
Hi @matmarex , I don't know if it is answering your question but i want you to know that many characters with "Arabic" in the name in this list, are Arabic diacritics (kind of vowels) and not a separated characters/letters.
For example U+064E ARABIC FATHA:
- it is this character َ (called Fatha and similar to the vowel a )
- but it is always used with another letter. Like when it is added to ب (letter b without vowel) it becomes a بَ which is pronounced ba .
Characters from this list which have to be combined with letters are: U+064E ; U+0650 ; U+0651 ; U+064B ; U+0652 ; U+064D ; U+064F
I hope you get the idea!

Using > means there is no more engineering work to do. Once @Dyolf77_WMF has verified this works on Arabic beta wiki we can call this done.

When a : is added to the prefix, the </nowiki> tag disappeared from the text.
The space between the symbol and the username is not a big issue, but, in my opinion, the additional : can be annoying/disturbing for the community.
Update: The </nowiki> tag disappears also with only the symbol+: ( this form ).
Hi @ppelberg
@Dyolf77_WMF can you, or someone else who has the rights to do so, please change the interface message for the @ mention prefix to ◀ on https://ar.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org and after doing so, asking the community at ar.wiki what they think of this approach?
The symbol has been changed but the </nowiki> is still there.

Finished the evaluation of ar.wiki suggestions. Suggestions can be improved by:
- hiding low quality/resolution images (they are used as icons),
- hiding images with DR (Deletion Request) tags,
- looking for local images in Other files section (especially for translatable maps/diagrams).

- Can you please give this implementation a try, let us know what you think and ask others to do the same? Instructions for how you can try this are listed below; we'd value you sharing these instructions with others at ar.wiki as well.
Thanks,
- ar.wiki community members were asked to try the implementation here: https://ar.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%D9%88%D9%8A%D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A8%D9%8A%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%A7:%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%8A%D8%AF%D8%A7%D9%86/%D8%AA%D9%82%D9%86%D9%8A%D8%A9&diff=prev&oldid=49533453
- My observations:
- Usernames have this symbol ▶ instead of the @ when pinging them from the list;
- This symbol is flipped. In a RTL text, ◀ is what we expect;
- (When I added, <div dir="rtl">, see the second section, to obtain a RTL display, all the indentations are not working).

@ppelberg thanks for asking this, before answering your question I would like to inform you that summary edits is what I personally look at when replying comments.
Can you say a bit more to this point? Are you saying that before replying to a comment on a talk page, you'll first notice the edit on your watchlist, review the edit summary that accompanied said edit and then go about drafting a response?
@ppelberg no, usually (without the reply tool) I make my comment and before saving it, I type the summary edit.
With the reply tool, I make my comment and before posting my answer I would like to describe what I just wrote in the summary edit, that is not available with the reply tool. That is my personal approach, the summary edit is what I want to add to the Reply tool.
Aug 3 2020
Question: considering that on ar.wiki the Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary (or the default undo summary) preference is turned on for everyone by default [i][ii], we wonder whether you can think of another method the software can use to determine whether someone will expect to see the custom edit summary field available within the Reply Tool when they use it for the first time?

That is a web browser issue (with Chrome, Safari and Brave). Firefox and Chromium don't have this problem. I just checked with these two browsers and the display of the parentheses is correct.

@Tgr , @MMiller_WMF Thanks
The {{GENDER:|}} is working in some places and not working in others. Like this sentence: https://translatewiki.net/wiki/MediaWiki:Growthexperiments-homepage-suggestededits-tasktype-label-links/ar
The red arrow shows the wrong display. The green arrow shows the right display (sentence is: https://translatewiki.net/wiki/MediaWiki:Growthexperiments-help-panel-suggestededits-footer-desktop/ar ). Both are using the same trick (GENDER)

Thanks @Esanders , I was thought if the user exists in another wiki, it will be in that wiki. I just tested it and it is working.
Another user encountered the same issue in Arabic Wikipedia when testing the feature: https://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%86%D9%82%D8%A7%D8%B4_%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%B3%D8%AA%D8%AE%D8%AF%D9%85:%D9%85%D8%AD%D9%85%D8%AF_%D8%A3%D8%AD%D9%85%D8%AF_%D8%B9%D8%A8%D8%AF_%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%81%D8%AA%D8%A7%D8%AD#%D8%AA%D8%AC%D8%B1%D8%A8%D8%A9

Testing the tool on Arabic Wikipedia, something strange is happening when I tried to ping someone using @: the suggestion list is outside the box and in the wrong side.
I had to zoom out a little bit to read the list.May 27 2020

For RTL wikis, is it possible to use the symbol ◀ instead of the @? So {{ping|مستخدم}} will display مستخدم◀ ! (USER=مستخدم)

My comment above was too quick so these are my answers:
For AR wiki:
- 1. Are templates typically added to unsigned comments?
Yes
- 2. If so, which unsigned templates are added?
this template: https://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%82%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A8:%D8%BA%D9%8A%D8%B1_%D9%85%D9%88%D9%82%D8%B9
- 3. What are the ways (e.g. en masse via script(s)/bot(s), manually, etc) in which these unsigned templates are added?
the template is added manually (there was a bot, but no more active now)
- 4. If unsigned templates are added en masse, what scripts and bots are used on your wiki?
No
In ar.wiki there is a bot that places a template after unsigned comments, but it is out of service now. Its creator is not available at the moment so the bot is stopped. Thus unsigned comments are now handled by editors who place the template manually!

This page contains comments from users in separate subsections created by the pre-load red button in the page which creates a subsection == Username ==, but these sections are moved manually to ==== Username ====.
If we keep the order of the section as the button does the "REPLY" works fine.
