Background
As part of the work to support the translation experience on mobile (T243495), a new translation dashboard was created with the intention to eventually become the "unified dashboard" that works for both mobile and desktop. The new dashboard supports new capabilities not supported on desktop (such as expand articles by translating new sections), uses a more modern technology (Vue.js) and follows responsive patterns. However, we need to check whether the new dashboard is ready to replace the old one on desktop.
New developments are focused on the new dashboard, and this is restricting the potential audience to only mobile editors. Currently, the mobile CX experience uses the unified dashboard, which has benefitted from more feature updates, including T368422 and T368718, that enable the current LPL annual work toward increasing content coverage through topic & collection translation suggestions.
The majority of translation activities happen on the desktop. Thus, migrating the desktop dashboard to use the new unified dashboard will increase exposure and the potential usage & impact that can be achieved with the two features (T368422 and T368718).
Part of this task includes checking both (desktop, mobile ) and documenting the observations in this ticket:
- making sure that desktop functionalities are also supported on mobile; for example, finding a translation, and starting a translation.
- identifying what users will lose if we replace the desktop experience with the mobile experience.
Some initial findings have been recorded: T382247 and T382244.
