VisualEditor: Deletion from slugged header causes preceding paragraph to appear to be deleted, but remain in the DM(?)
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Author: swalling

When attempting to remove an entire section with an h2 header, removing the text of the header does not remove the line separator underneath the header.

Additionally, one additional delete/backspace action deleted the entire preceding section, and it seems from the resulting content that I merely blanked the header but the wikitext for it remains.

Severity: normal

This has also been reported by other users, and is something I observed in the usertesting videos we did, too.

The first part of this bug is a duplicate of bug 49452 ("Whitespace-only headings should be collapsed to (blank) paragraphs"), so re-purposing to be about the deletion issue.

@Steven - could you give more details about this bug with deletion magically hiding large blocks of text but not deleting them - was it in Chrome/Mac? Does it happen reliably (and can you reproduce now) or is it occasional?

@Oliver - is the "this" that users have seen the deletion causing a paragraph to no longer appear but still be there, or the heading-not-being-fully-deleted issue?

The latter; my apologies for not reading correctly! :)

Could someone provide step by step instruction how to reproduce this problem?

Change 70949 had a related patch set uploaded by Inez:
(bug 49424) Add empty lines before/after new block level images

AFAICT this is now fixed - marking as WORKSFORME. Please re-open if it recurs.
