Provide direct access to the file page via a small icon near the thumbnail
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Migrated from: https://wikimedia.mingle.thoughtworks.com/projects/multimedia/cards/702

Narrative

As a user, I can access the file page directly by clicking on the thumbnail's small icon, so that I can easily edit its information.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Change the link for the magnify icon below thumbnails to go directly to the file page (right now, it offers redundant functionality)
  • Replace thatmagnify icon with a different icon, to indicate that it goes to the file page (maybe the same Wikimedia Commons icon we use in the Media Viewer, but grayed out?)

This idea was proposed by Quiddity in this discussion page .

As it is described, this seems problematic to me.
I'm fine in providing an entry point from the image itself (I'll explore some options), but making it look like the default image viewing action will only generate confusion: users landing to two different viewing experiences without apparent reason.

Mass-removing the Multimedia tag from MediaViewer tasks, as this is now being worked on by the Reading department, not Editing's Multimedia team.

As written is not clear. There is not a magnifying glass any more. A new clearer task should be written.
