Hello everyone

So after the contribution stage I decided to make some research on apps that can help me add subtitle to videos automatically and I finally got one called
Kaptioned: I think the app is worth trying out, below is the link to the subtitle I used it to add to one of the video I created during the contribution stage

Please I want to know if its right for me to submit my drafted project timeline for the internship here for review and adjustment before pasting it on my final application

@Miracleonyi25 For your video, I thought you did a great job! I would suggest considering subtitles to help improve accessibility.

Can you say a little more about the tools you used for this?

@Miracleonyi25 You are not asking too many questions! :-) The process can be complicated, especially if it is your first time applying!!! And I'm happy to help as best I can.

Basically, what you want to do is just follow the steps for applying to Outreachy and just ignore the question about Google Summer of Code (GSOC) completely since it is not applicable for this round.

These steps should guide you along: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Outreachy/Participants#Application_process_steps

Let me know if this helps.

@Miracleonyi25 I just took another look in that Zulip channel and it might not be the right place to ask this question.

I reread the Outreachy information, and it says " If this application is for the December to March internship period, or you are not applying to Google Summer of Code, please leave this question blank." So as I understand, you would still follows the steps to submit the Outreachy application as normal, you just would not include the question about Google Summer of Code.

@Miracleonyi25 I think the best place to ask questions about the difference between the two programs and applications would be in the Zulip channel if you are not in there already: https://wikimedia.zulipchat.com/#narrow/stream/274201-gsoc21-outreachy22

I recorded another video on how to use the content translation tool.

I tried improving in some aspects I didn't do well in the first video on citationhunt tool
I would be happy if our mentors @srishakatux and @srodlund can criticise it and correct me in areas needed.
I made use of the same tools used in creating the previous video on citationhunt.

Also I got the content translation tool from Special:ContentTranslation going through my Wikipedia account
I decided to go for the tool because I saw it's importance in communicating things without having the problem of language barriers.

@Dagggg12 and others,

I just wanted to reshare this note from earlier in the thread.

As the application deadline is approaching soon (November 5th), we would encourage everyone to start working on their applications if you have not done so already and make sure you submit them on time. Make sure you have covered all the steps to complete your application here: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Outreachy/Participants#Application_process_steps.

@GatwiriV and Miracleonyi25 In terms of the timeline -- It's best to think about the skills you would like to build during the program and what tangible things you would like to deliver at the end of the project and work back from there. Try to estimate how much time you think you will need to work on small parts of the project to complete it as a whole. When this round's applicant is accepted, we'll work together to refine their proposed timeline. Hope this helps!

Hello @srishakatux , what you are referring to here is it the contribution recording and final application
Or is there any other one?

Both. You need to record your contributions along with submitting the final application on the Outreachy website. Also, you need to submit a proposal on Phabricator. See Step 12 here https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Outreachy/Participants#Application_process_steps

Thanks for working on this!

You seem to have picked a vital tool! I am curious to know your process of picking the tool and about the tools you used to develop the video.

A couple of suggestions for improvements for now or in the future:

  • The video is barely visible. Maybe while exporting, you chose the low quality?
  • Animation with text at the bottom is distracting. It is also overlapping with the text on the video frames, which is annoying.
