Open, LowPublic

Description

{{tl|Nihongo}} (which has ~50k translusions) has an {{para|extra}} parameter where editors usually add birth/death data. This means we have to:
*Obtain birth/death info for Human Categories
*Fixes mdashes

''Usually'' is not good enough. I would like to understand why editors ever put such data in the template.

They put data in order to add extra information before the parentheses that contains the local name closes. I am not sure how we do it in other cases. Do we have two pairs of parentheses one next to the other. Btw, "usually" in this case is equal to "always with probability 1" i.e. in all the cases I observed.

This is a language-rendering template, and use of {{para|extra}} for birth/death dates ought to be discouraged because it's not its vocation to collect this data. Biographies will usually contain {{tl|persondata}}, which is where this metadata should be centralised. I fail to see why it should be duplicated in this, or indeed any other, template.

Extra parameter generates text visible in the text.
