Notifications has previously being loading very slowly at nowiki, but the last days it seems like it is not loading at all. There are now complaints about this at our bazar; extend notifications (a thread about the beta function) and your alerts (a thread about the alerts failing to load).

@jeblad Are notifications still having problems at Nowiki?
I believe the database of older notifications was being synchronized, and had progressed up to around the letter "N" yesterday, so that might have been the cause of a severe slowdown (or perhaps not loading at all) for a few hours.
Re: "Notifications has previously being loading very slowly at nowiki" - is this still a problem? If so, please could you guess/estimate how slow exactly you mean?
Or perhaps take a screenshot of the Network panel of your browser (open it after loading a page, but before opening the flyout) like this:

We haven't reached N yet, we're still at mswiki, but that shouldn't affect anything.

WFM. If other users are complaining about this too, perhaps it could be related to a popular gadget or user script.

It seems like they loads much faster now, I would guess that it takes slightly more than a second.

Re-checked on nowiki - Notification flyout with cross-wiki messages expand in around a sec; Special:Notifications page loads in about one second time too.
