At Wikivoyage we are using a manageable amount of groups (see, do, eat etc.). In case of many markers a subdivision of these groups is maybe useful. For instance sleep (budget, midrange, upmarket), see (religious sites, buildings, parks, museums, etc...) Theses groups should be collapsible and selectable as a whole with the opportunity to select subgroup items individually.
