I had been using mathoid server http://mathoid.testme.wmflabs.org for my MediaWiki installation for about a year without any problem before January 21th when it stopped working. Now I get error "502" from any possible network I tried.

Thank you for reporting! I have restarted Mathoid there and it is now up again. We have another instance of Mathoid in Labs which we use regularly for testing at https://mathoid-beta.wmflabs.org . I would suggest you start using the other one.
Resolving since the server now responds to requests.
@mobrovac could you suggest a URL that might be used in the Math Extension as default?
As I suggested in T156289#2971141, one can use https://mathoid-beta.wmflabs.org/ or use the storage-powered REST API at https://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/api/rest_v1/#/Math . The http://mathoid.testme.wmflabs.org/ was set on an alternative project and we don't plan on supporting it. Resolving as declined since there are other viable alternatives.
Please do not use stuff in deployment-prep for outside wikis, especially as an extension default.
