Description

Steps to reproduce:

open page for editing
add <source lang="I dont exist"><source>
show preview

Expected result: you see the tracking category "Pages with syntax highlighting errors"

Actual result: works on old editor, does not work in new wikitext editor

This is particularly annoying for SyntaxHighlight where the correct syntax is hard to guess.

All categories are missing (T153534).

And, by the way, adding a syntaxhighlight element is probably best done by using the tool from the insert menu, even in source code mode. Because, as you said and showed by the missing slash in the end tag, doing this right is complicated.

And it's <syntaxhighlight>, <source> is a deprecated alias, since <source> is now an HTML5 element. :)
