Russian ambox page issues on Minerva showing secondary information
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

In T204090#4632426 @stjn points out that secondary information is being incorrectly displayed in Russian Wikipedia

ru.m.wikipedia.org_wiki_%D0%A0%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%82%D0%BE%D0%B2%D1%89%D0%B8%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B2%D0%BE_useskin=minerva&minerva-issues=b(iPhone 6_7_8).png (1×750 px, 201 KB)

Ideally, we only want to show the first line and when clicked show the rest of the text to the user.

Minerva currently looks for the hide-when-compact class to identify secondary information but Russian uses mbox-textsmall-div

Ideally we'd use a shared definition to describe secondary information.

Developer notes

Possible options

  1. Russian templates are updated so that elements with mbox-textsmall-div also have hide-when-compact class
  2. English templates are updated to have mbox-textsmall-div class when using hide-when-compact class AND Minerva is updated to use mbox-textsmall-div
  3. New class is used to describe this kind of content and adopted on Russian and English

Note: an alternative solution is we support both classes mbox-textsmall-div and hide-when-compact, however I can see this becoming a big maintenance burden and would like to avoid this.

@stjn 1 would be the most straightforward obviously, but I don't know if that would be controversial. What do you think?

If hide-when-compact class doesn’t bring any additional styling on desktop (as far as I can see), I think that (1) wouldn’t be controversial to do.

Any ideas how I can reach the right people that edit that template? It wouldn't have any impact on desktop.

I dont have editing rights there and would feel more comfortable with a community member doing it. Do you know of any template editors?

You misunderstood me, the first page I linked was a technical requests page, and the second one the page that needs to be fixed. Told sysops myself to fix it, thanks, seems like this is resolved.

Wouldn’t matter to people even without the apologies :-)
