Qualitative data collection for ores bias analysis
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

By incorporating a broader
pool of qualitative information taken from interviews and trace ethnography we
want to:

  1. Uncover emic:

(a) Rationales for adopting algorithm-powered flags and filters
(b) Responses to learning that the algorithm is biased against newcomer
and anonymous editors
(c) Accounts of adoption of the tools and how it might change the Wikis

  1. Glean clues about:

(a) How might individual Wikipedian behavior change?
(b) What kinds of reverts might have changed the most?
(c) How the tool diffused and how would bias interact with it?

Event Timeline

I'm making a list of people who helped with labeling campaigns for the different ores projects.

@Lea_Lacroix_WMDE and @Lydia_Pintscher, I saw that you were involved with bringing ORES to wikidata. Do you have any ideas about community members I should talk to?

Hey! I don't have a lot of information about who helped with the labeling campaigns, but I think you could talk to @Sjoerddebruin, @abian and @matej_suchanek.

@Groceryheist, please feel free to tell us in case we can help you in some way. :-)

@Groceryheist, you mentioned putting this on the backburner for a while. Could we move this to the backlog?
