Hi everyone! Thanks for working on this app.
I'll pretend to be a volunteer who is interested in contributing code to the KaiOS-Wikipedia-app:
- Be on phabricator.wikimedia.org.
- Go to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/profile/4305/
- Hmm, no link to more information about this project (only a link to what KaiOS itself is)
- Okay, let's go to mediawiki.org.
- Search for "kaios wikipedia app" - two unhelpful results.
- Using more vague terms, I can find SoS notes and a high-level description on mw:Inuka_team.
- Try https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Apps . No mention.
- Meh. Go to external google.com.
- Find a code base at https://github.com/wikimedia/wikipedia-kaios/ - Yay!
- README.md explains how to "run the Cypress tests" (what's that?). But how can I set up a development environment, run the code base, and hack on code?
Please provide documentation and make this project discoverable, in order to allow collaboration. WMF's obligation is not just to share code, but to cultivate a healthy community of contributors around the source code. For example, it seems that actual instructions how to build and how to run this code base do exist, but unfortunately in non-discoverable places.
Thanks a lot in advance!
(PS: Reading about the WMF Inuka Team and its focus, I'm also wondering if there are projects which could be promoted in WMF's Outreach Programs? They focus on underrepresented groups in tech and have a pretty global representation.)
