Feature summary (what you would like to be able to do and where):
Hi, i want to request the possibility to show/hide the name of the files that certain wiki is using from a repository in Special:WantedFiles.
The page Special:WantedFIles, like these:
- https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:WantedFiles
Shows this message at the top:
The following files are used but do not exist. Files from foreign repositories may be listed despite existing. Any such false positives will be struck out. Additionally, pages that embed files that do not exist are listed in Category:Pages with broken file links.
This means that struck out files are perfectly fine. They exist and is a false positive of the page. As you can see on the links provided above, Special:WantedFiles can be full with Struck out names. The system is already identifying the files that come from a repository, these are the struck out names. Why don't go a step further and allow that titles to be hidden?
Use case(s) (list the steps that you performed to discover that problem, and describe the actual underlying problem which you want to solve. Do not describe only a solution):
The problem: "i can't view clearly which files are missing and need fixing."
Steps i did to discover i have this problem:
- Visit the Special:WantedFiles of my wiki
- Look at the first page
- I see that all are struck out names
- I can't find actual redlinks in the list
The underlying issue that i think has this page is that the page is listing both redlinks and files with a transcluded description page in the same list. Files with a transcluded description pages are available on a repository and they just show fine on the pages. At the contrary, redlinks don't show at all.
A solution could be to discern redlinks from the names of files on a repository. That can be done by tagging, putting a different class, or many other methods. The system already shows the difference between the two because only files from a repository are struck out.
I request the ability to show/hide the list of redlinks of Special:WantedFiles to be editable by local admins, so it needs some element a local admin can switch on/off. For example a button. Like the previous next that is currently implemented.
Benefits (why should this be implemented?):
If we allow a Show/hide capability, the users could see what names of files are actually redlinks with no file. I want an option to show only the redlinks on my wiki, so that way i know i need to upload them, or fix the typo in the name, or any other thing related with the titles of the files.
The method to identify and separate the names of Special:WantedFiles in two classes and show/hide one or the two could be very beneficial to everyone who uses Special:WantedFiles.
