msw-a8-eqiad potentially down
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

5h ago, all mgmt interfaces of devices in eqiad rack A8 reported as down.

Also https://netbox.wikimedia.org/dcim/devices/3611/ says it's in rack A7 and "not racked"?

The mgmt switch power led was amber, tried pulling the power and plugging back in but no change. We had a spare wmf4921, racked it, and moved all the mgmt cables. I need to update netbox and check with @RobH if there is any warranty on the netgear mgmt switches.

So when we purchased them, they had a lifetime warrranty. However, it seems that required we also register them within 90 days, and that never happened.

So it seems no warranty on the current ones, but new orders we need to ensure we register upon arrival.

Until the recent chipset shortage, these were cheap and easily available switches. If we have no spares on site, we may also want to look at option on fs.com

https://www.fs.com/products/83325.html

If either of these would work instead, then we'll need to file a procurement request to order some.

We had a spare on-site thankfully but we should probably purchase a new one
just in case or save a couple of the older models for emergencies.

For sure, agreed @Cmjohnson. Once the new Netgear switches arrive for the expansion cage in April, we can hold onto some of the temp msw's we're currently using as future spares. @ayounsi - are we good to close out this task?

Thanks,
Willy

netbox updated with msw1 connection changed the broken name to msw-a8-eqiad-broken and placed as failed for the time being.
