Re-enable Toki Pona ("tok") on translatewiki.net
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Originally I mentioned this in T236938, but I got told to make a separate task.

This week Toki Pona received a valid ISO code: tok. This can be verified here and here.

  • Language name in English: Toki Pona
  • Language name in the language itself: toki pona (fully lowercase)
  • Used script: Latin
  • Wikidata item: Q36846

Translatewiki.net had a portal called "Portal:tokipona". It has been renamed to "Portal:tok".

There are a lot of translations to Toki Pona on translatewiki.net already. They used to be suffixed with "/tokipona", but this got changed to "/tok". They can be found on this page.

The final step is re-enabling Toki Pona on translatewiki.net, so that the translating can be continued.

Event Timeline

Some translation work has been done recently starting with the old /tokipona data, which can be found here: https://github.com/tbodt/mediawiki-tokipona/. It would be better to delete the tokipona data and import this instead.

It would be better to rename the old pages and import this repository over it (probably with a bot), replacing the content of the old pages. This way all original authors are still properly attributed in the history of the pages.

I have moved all the /tokipona subpages on Translatewiki to /tok.

I'm trying to figure out how to submit translations for Toki Pona, but it's missing from the dropdown on Special:Translate. Should it be added there?

There is no easy way for us to import json files. They could be submitted against appropriate repositories in Gerrit, and if merged, they would be automatically synced to translatewiki.net.

I'll send a gerrit change(s) with the json file(s) later.
