Two MPG files are audio files, but are classified as video
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Similar to T226311 and T294213 but for mpg files. The following two files contain only an audio track (AAC one), so they should be classified as audio.

Event Timeline

We don't support mpeg-4 / AAC officially. It just bypasses the check by pretending to be mpeg-1, mpeg2 files (based on file extension). These really should have the m4a file extension.

If I were to convert this to mp3 or ogg and upload it as a new revision of this file, what would happen? Can file type be changed with a new file revision?

No, the MIME type must match the extension in the title.

You can upload an mp3 (with the mpg file extension) and then rename to mp3 i think.. Not 100% sure, depends a bit on if mp3 has a strict or non-strict content check.

Currently I am not able to upload mp3s (no autopatrol flag), so somebody else will have to look into this.
