There was a lengthy discussion at English Wikipedia investigating a seemingly broken mentorship module. The underlying issue sounds to be that Special:ClaimMentee always succeeds, even when the mentee one's claiming does not have Growth features enabled.
Inform the mentor if one or more of the claimed mentees does not have Growth features used, to avoid potential confusion.

@Urbanecm_WMF I moved this to needs discussion in case further action is needed before this can be moved to upcoming work / incoming.
One point to check on this is that the mentor-opt-in status is not currently available publicly, and this could leak it. That being said, I don't think it needs to be a secret preference.
