Description

Feature summary (what you would like to be able to do and where):

Full details in https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Thread:Support/About_Phabricator:phabricator-policy-29cfbeec9a497809/en:_typo_as_%22waxing%22,_change_to_%22waning%22%3F_or_to_%22declining%22%3F

Very mysterious messages about lunar cycles in Phabricator (including a very probable typo)

The support message in Translatewiki.net also lists some other (related?) messages that should probably be revisited. As it is absolutely not clear what they mean or actually used for, and how Phabricator users would/should react to them.

This is not part of the "Wikimedia" extension of Phabricator, but is a built-in part of Phabricator. To my knowledge there is no audience for such issue here on Phabricator, but to the extent that we have awareness within our broader community in relation to upstream localisation, I imagine that resides on translatewiki.net.

I've replied to the original thread on TWN. Closing this as such to keep the conversation in one place.

Context for the phabricator policy messages seems to be https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/source/phabricator/browse/wmf%252Fstable/src//applications/policy/rule/PhabricatorLunarPhasePolicyRule.php$44, where the Phabricator developers used the phase of the moon as an example of a custom policy. As a native English speaker, referring to the moon as "waxing" and "waning" feels perfectly natural , but I do agree the patchwork messages are problematic.

The arcanist messages come from https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/source/arcanist/browse/wmf%252Fstable/src/workflow/ArcanistLookWorkflow.php, where the Phabricator developers seem to have had some fun creating a arc look command that presents various otherwise useful information as if it were rooms in an adventure game and uses the time of day and the phase of the moon as context.
