MM3/postorius: incomprehensible/overcomplicated unsubscription for end users
Open, MediumPublic

Description

We have the daily-article-l where we have around 34.5K members, most of which subscribed at the time where we used mailman2, so most of them do not have any account in postorius.

With the amount of members there arises the wish to unsubscribe nearly every day for one or another user, but to unsubscribe from the list you have to create an account at first, confirm your password, then unsubscribe from the list and throw away the account, which appears incomprehensible and overcomplicated to most of the users. So the list admins receive requests for manual unsubscription nearly every day.

Combined with other issues, not least T314251 and T314247, this ends up very expensive for those list admins, which is mostly myself only.

Event Timeline

I should be possible for the user to unsubscribe from the list directly out of the received list e-mail.

The user should be able to email -leave address for the list, This used to be documented in the MM2 email footers, This may need to be manually readded in the MM3 footers. https://docs.mailman3.org/projects/mailman/en/latest/build/lib/mailman/commands/docs/membership.html?highlight=unsubscribe#leaving-a-mailing-list

I have changed the footers accordingly, and I think there is a good cance that this could solve a relevant part of the problem. Thank you!
