Problems with ULS popup for "Translate this page": stuck open, 2px offset, wrong arrow
Open, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • In Chrome or FF, log in and view a page with many translations, like [[Sri Lanka]].
  • Click the ULS icon
  • Click on the line below the search, where it reads "Missing in <lang>, <lang2>, and more ❯"
  • This replaces the language-selector popup with a 'Translate this page' popup
  • Click on the ULS icon again
  • Now the lang-selector popup comes back, hidden behind the Translate-this-page popup. It seems you can't close the latter unless you decide to translate the page!

What happens?:

  • The Translate popup doesn't want to close.
  • If you figure out how to close it (you have to click the small icon in the upper-left, which is unclear and invisible in dark mode), the lang-selector returns, highlighting that they're part of the same modal. But if you click on ULS again it tries to show both at once.

What should have happened instead?:

  • Clicking anywhere on the title bar that reads "Translate this page" should close it and return to the lang selector.
  • The icon in the upper left of that title bar button to click to close the Translate popup should be a character ( ❮ or ᐸ ), not an image. That way it can change color with the background, like the ❯ character at the right side of the text "Missing in ... ❯". This will fix the current bug in dark mode where the left-pointing icon is invisible.
  • Clicking on the ULS icon to reopen the lang selector should also close the Translate popup.
  • The Translate popup should be moved 1-2 pixels down and to the left, to be aligned cleanly with the lang selector popup. That would make it even more clear they are part of the same modal.
