Correcting Gift Source Coding on Benevity import
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The current Benevity import is miscoding the gift source on gifts.

We want to correct this issue and use this moment to add another gift source to the coding of benevity gifts for accuracy.

Within a Benevity import, there are various types of gifts: Matching gifts, Payroll deductions, individual gifts, and also Employee Giving and Volunteer Match.

I've put together some examples from the last few imports.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UFJI54G_jxvBz3LnuHELdBUlNnmo4RXa6KaUKvCRCZs/edit#gid=478964989

I have removed all donor information from this sheet and used my name instead. The orange columns are the appropriate gift source for each gift in the preceding column. These columns are not included in the import.

I also created this little key to help
Blue Snap and Blue Snap (Apple Pay) = Individual Gift
Payroll = Payroll Deduction
My rewords = Employee Giving
Blank = individual gift
Volunteer= Volunteer Match
Donation = Matching Gift

Employee Giving and Volunteer Match would be new Gift Sources

Event Timeline

Adding a note about the timeline:

  • We are hoping this could be corrected by the end of January. I want to use it to reimport all of benevity for this fiscal year so we have a better idea of what kind of gifts came through.

XenoRyet set Final Story Points to 4.

@Eileenmcnaughton I can test this in a few days. Benevity's website is down and I can't pull any reports until the 31st.

@Eileenmcnaughton Everything looks good with my test! We are going to work on fixing the other months and will come back if we see anything else not mapping correctly

@Eileenmcnaughton

I have some new Source/Reasons that need mapping on this import.

Source Reason
Corporate Direct Donation Corporate Donation

PAC Match User Donation

Corporate donation would be gift source = Corporate Gift
and PACH MATCH User donation combo would be gift source= Matching Gift

Nora, I'm reviewing Eileen's patch and I just wanted to double check what you meant by Source/Reasons. Are those two fields or one?

That is, is it a single field with literally "Corporate Direct Donation Corporate Donation" and "PAC Match User Donation" values?

Yes they are two fields. They are usually complementary to each other. In this case the corporate donation reason and source are basically the same and can be marked as a Corporate Gift. The other one is just a little trickier because it's PAC Match and then User Donation. User donation can sometimes mean Individual Gift from the donor but in this case the funds are in the Matching Gift field and would u become a gift source = Matching Gift

I just spoke to @NNichols & it seems OK to only match the 2 sources (& ignore the reasons)
