Color Contrast Issue on Wikipedia Portal: Current Events
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The Wikipedia Portal: Current Events page is not meeting the color contrast ratio standards outlined in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) AA level.

Affected URL: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal%3ACurrent_events?minervanightmode=1

Recommendation:

Review the color scheme used for text and background elements on the Wikipedia Portal: Current Events page, particularly in Minerva Night Mode.
Adjust the colors to ensure that text meets the minimum contrast ratio required by WCAG AA guidelines.

Jdlrobson lowered the priority of this task from Medium to Low.Mar 9 2024, 12:12 AM

The changes above didn't address the issue on English Wikipedia as the default page already has accessibility issues.

One solution here is to strip all the colors in night mode (as they are non-essential) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal:Current_events/styles.css&diff=1212662741&oldid=1054047429&title=Portal%3ACurrent_events%2Fstyles.css&diffonly=1

This could be applied to other pages which have the problem.

We'll be disabling night mode on this namespace in T359183 in the initial release so not a high priority to fix.

Jdlrobson claimed this task.

This has been fixed here per T357717#9616869.
I advocate doing the same for similar pages.
