Currently, failure to call pdfinfo for a file will result in an empty metadata array to be stored, and that will result in a cryptic message "<filename> does not allow inline display", which does not help the user figure out that this is an external tool execution error. The fact of an error should be stored somehow, and the message should say that metadata extraction failed.
