Delete #Wikimedia-Search
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/board/1057/ seems unused. Moreover, it appears to be disconnected from the https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Staff_and_contractors#Search team (#Search-Team).

Adding to MediaWiki-Search, Elasticsearch and CirrusSearch, plus Wikimedia-lucene-search-2 and MWSearch etc. etc., brings confusion without any benefit, because the scope of the project is not well defined (and/or not matching with its name) and the incoming tasks just get lost.

Given Elasticsearch was being used as tag for Wikimedia search stuff, maybe that can be reused/reassessed together. Alternatively, the very narrow proposed scope for this project could fit in a column of the workboard of a mobile team, or of the #Search-Team project.

Feel free to delete the project if it makes you feel better. That said, we'll be creating new projects soon though, as search-related work is going to start ramping up.

We've been using the Search-Team board to coordinate the various search-related work, including Wikidata Query Service, CirrusSearch, Elastic, etc. This makes things simple to manage, since everything is tracked under a single umbrella.

Since the team is currently very small, we don't run into issues of a noisy/chaotic backlog, however as the team grows we might need to reevaluate this.

I suggest waiting at least a couple days before making any changes in this area (eg: team projects especially search ones). Actually, I more than suggest but not quite decree :)

To follow up: The Search Team will be cleaning up all the search-related phabricator projects. Please don't delete this one except as part of that larger effort.

This seems strongly related to T95932: Automatically add tasks to "Discovery" project via Herald; wondering if there's any decision yet whether this project is still wanted or used?

The Wikimedia-Search project has been made redundant, and @ksmith has archived it. Delete it, or not, in accordance with whatever policy you have.

Unlike CirrusSearch and other similar projects, Wikimedia-Search was not an existing "feature" project. It was created recently, and was never really used. As Deskana said, it has been archived and is not needed.

Aklapper claimed this task.

(Projects cannot be deleted, only renamed or archived.)

Thanks for clarifying and for archiving it!
