Add eye icon to the watchlist collection
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

The term 'watchlist' should be always accompanied with an eye. This is to let users know that they can actually watch something in it and it is a special collection.

Have you read the past discussions about using an eye icon for the watchlist? This came up during the Vector skin's development and at various other times. If you search around Phabricator Maniphest, you can probably find the discussions.

I found T25141: Watch star icon is not obvious, but I'm pretty sure there's been additional discussion. Probably would have to check mediawiki.org and/or wikitech-l.

That talks about an eye being related to "watching" while "watchlist" is translated as "follow list" to some languages and has nothing to do with an eye. This is a valid concern.

How would you propose to distinguish the watchlist from other collections, if not with an icon?

Say I have collection "animal articles to translate" and "watchlist" and "wzsomething". What we can do is put them in the dialog in A-Z order:

  • animal articles
  • watchlist
  • wzsomething
  • ___________ [+ADD collection]

Or put them in A-Z order, but watchlist first:

  • watchlist
  • animal articles
  • wzsomething
  • ___________ [+ADD collection]

Or something else. Either way how to make it clear that watchlist is special? Please advise. Thanks.

(Following that way of thinking, I opened this task.)
