If you can't edit a protected page, no section edit links appear, even those for sections of transcluded pages that you can edit
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

Turns out when a template's edit tab says "View source" instead of "Edit", ya hafta read the /doc page directly if you want to edit ''sections'' of what you read. If you just want to edit the entire /doc, you can do that from the main page by pressing "edit" in the doc box; otherwise to edit sections you have to press "view" in the doc box and read the /doc directly. So it's a bug. Grate!

Rephrased to make the report less Wikipedia-specific, and put in the right projects.

Minimal reproduction:

  • Create page B containing == foo == \n asd
  • Create page A containing {{:B}}
  • Protect page A (without cascading)
  • With unprivileged account, visit B. Observe that there is no section edit link for the "foo" section, even though you can edit it.

Not quite the same as T11394: Section "view source" on protected pages but figured I'd relate them in the comments.
