Can someone clearly explain exactly what this ticket is about?

@Moushira:
Please describe what this task is about and how to reproduce some problem or where which specific suggestion should be shown and what "WP link ownership" refers to and what kind of "bn.wikipedia.org button" the task summary talks about and what the linked community discussion is about and how Operations are supposed to be related here.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Recently We had a discussion on Bengali Wikipedia Community whether we can add our social network links in bnwp's main page. Now we'd like to add verification badge next to bnwp's website on our Google+ page. In order to do that we need to verify bn.wikipedia.org via Webmaster Tools (https://support.google.com/business/answer/4569085?hl=en). Once webmaster approve the request that google will send, a verification badge will be added next to bn.wikipedia.org address on google plus (like the one added to Wikipedia's g+ page, you can see the verification badge next to wikipedia.org: https://plus.google.com/+Wikipedia/posts). Thanks

@Jalexander: This is in regards to Google Webmaster Tools, hence the ping for you.

I am not sure which project to associate with this task. Seems like the big bucket operations project was (well AFAIC, so that it is not forgotten) chosen but we probably need to move it cause I do not see how it is relevant to operations right now. @Aklapper any suggestions ?

Sorry, not really. All I see when searching for past tickets is that this was once upon a time handled in RT (and hence old tasks are tagged as ops@). @greg above already pinged @Jalexander, maybe he can also clarify general responsibilities here?

Google Webmaster Tools things are not handled by ops anymore afaict (T83494) -> @chasemp

I think the current arrangement is closer to Discovery being self-service and being responsible for maintaining their own access. Whether they would also service outside requests hasn't been discussed. I don't know if this falls under their domain or not. This is a pretty unique request from what I can tell.

Yeah I'm not sure we have a formal set of "whose responsible for what" right now with Google Webmaster... Personally I'm happy to help confirm the connection but let me check with the lawyers first. I should hopefully respond here within 48 hours but if I don't please feel free to poke me either here or elsewhere.

Any updates?

but let me check with the lawyers first.

@Jalexander: Did that happen? Any outcome?

It does, sorry for the delays here. I thought this was done... will look into it in the morning.

@Jalexander: Any news to share here? Thanks!

This has been stuck now for 18 months. Does someone else have the same permissions in "Webmaster Tools"?

I just wanted to acknowledge I just got a ping on this Phabricator task. I won't be able to investigate until next week, unfortunately.

I wanted to note I haven't forgotten about this. Got sick and have been doing annual budgeting...

Just a note that I've reached out internally to a contact to see if this is okay and achievable.

In searching the internet about implementation, it appears the setup may be more complicated than Search Console URL verification, potentially involving certain criteria for number of Google Plus followers and Google reaching out to the Google Plus account holder.

I'm closing this task as Google+ policy on this matter has changed since we started this discussion. This tick mark beside the website address is no longer applicable. There is only one tick mark now beside the page name. They even changed the layout since we started this.

Well, you're indeed right though I wasn't interested in verifying the page if that's what you meant. Anyways, this task is obsolete now because google+ itself changed it. Thanks for this reminder though :)
