As of now, many language versions of Wikipedia automatically refer users to
localized versions of their special-namespace as well as names for special
pages, e.g. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spezial:Statistik instead of
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Statistics. This cannot be circumvented or
Combined with the fact that the different language versions of Wikipedia only
recognize the canonical names (i.e. in English) and their own localized versions
but not any other localized versions, it has become difficult to jump between
different language versions of special pages. For example:
can easily be changed into
by simply changing the language ISO-code at the beginning of the adress.
But this is not possible for the automatic default on localized language
versions of Wikipedia (for instance, no Wikipedia version accepts the localized
German names except for the German Wikipedia itself). Thus, in
"Spezial" would have to be changed into "Special", and "Pr%C3%A4fixindex" would
have to be changed into "Prefixindex". This makes it unneccessarily difficult to
compare results of special pages from different language versions of Wikipedia.
Thus I propose that either all Wikipedia language versions recognize each
others' localized names for special pages as well as for the special namespace,
or that by setting up a preferred language in his personal user settings a user
would be able to change the automatic localized versions of the Wikipedia his
account is at for himself (e.g. into the canonical English).
