Cassandra 3.0 will have some support for materialized views, which by the looks of it will simplify secondary index maintenance:
However, based on past experience and the fact that this is a new major version it'll probably be quite a while until this is production-worthy. There is no release date for it yet, and some say based on past experience that only x.x.y with y >= 6 should be considered for production, which typically takes half a year from x.x.0.
