Setup VoteWiki for faWP use
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

faWiki has requested to use SecurePoll for their Arbitration Committee elections. For this they will use voteWiki which will get some setup and adjustments to make this easier. Tasks will be crossed off for that setup as needed here:

  • Switch default language on voteWiki to fa
  • Create wiki accounts for election admins
  • Setup test election targeted only to fa.wikipedia.org with all admins (and jalexander as test) on voteWiki.

Event Timeline

The first piece should be deployed during the Thursday SWAT window, the 2nd and 3rd were hoped to be done by then but got further delayed because of the trainings I'm in. They will still get done by end of day Thursday. Using this to track to ensure it all gets finished and folks know, @Huji and @4nn1l2 if you know anyone else with phab tickets that should be on this feel free to add.

Mentioned in SAL [2016-04-14T15:27:18Z] <Dereckson> Synchronized wmf-config/InitialiseSettings.php: Change voteWiki to fa language temporarily (T132667) (duration: 00m 34s)

Dereckson removed a project: Patch-For-Review.

The main setup pieces are now done here. I will work with the appointed admins by email etc but voteWIki is switched over, accounts created and test election set up.

@Nikerabbit is it possible to make votewiki use the same interface language as the wiki from which you are being referred to it? (In case of those coming from FA WP, in Persian?) Specifically, we want the interface to retain that language throughout the user session (as in, not switch back to English with your first click).

If yes, the we can switch the default interface language to EN. If not, then we will have to keep it as FA for the period of August-September when FA WP elections occur.

If people browser it logged-in, then yes there could be a way to change their interface language preference. If logged out, nope.

Yes I am talking logged-in. If we can implement what you just said, then I'm fine with reverting the votewiki interface language to English forever.
