Description

In order to provide more robust service, avoid single-DC point of failure, and improve query service responsiveness, we'd like to add 2 WDQS server in codfw (see T124862). For this we need a machine close to the specs with wdqs1001/wdqs1002, namely:

  • At least 500G SSD diskspace in RAID (2 or 4 disks, depending on what is cheaper)
  • 96G RAM
  • 4-8 cores with 2.5 GHz min

wdqs100[12] have the following hardware:

  • Dell PowerEdge R420
  • Dual Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2440 0 @ 2.40GHz (6 cores)
  • 96GB RAM
  • SSDs in a hw raid10 to total 500GB space
    • currently 4 * 300GB

We have no spares in any site to match this specification right now. I'll create a S4 procurement task for the quoting of servers.

I think we don't need exact copies of wdqs100*. Minimum reqs are 300G HD and 64G RAM, but whatever is more convenient from there up is fine.

The configuration of those servers is tracked on T144380. This task can probably be closed, unless it is still used to track some work on the procurement side. @RobH, I'll let you close unless you need it.
