Description

In itwiki we had complaints because the link editor sometimes displays redirects page as missing pages.

Try doing this:

  • Open https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utente:Elitre_(WMF)/Pagina_delle_prove_VE
  • Edit it with VisualEditor
  • If you write "USA" and then try to create a wl it displays "Stati Uniti d'America" as the first choice and the redirect "USA" as the second choice
  • If you write "Faringe" and then try to create a wl to "Cartilagine cricoidea" (which redirects to "Cartilagine cricoide") the wanted page is listed as a missing page and the target page of the "Cartilagine cricoidea" redirect is in blue.
  • Select the red link and the word in text appears as a red link
  • Save the page and the text is now blue

Jdforrester-WMF updated the task description. (Show Details)

When it comes to the behavior of the editor, one thing has changed since 2016 – in the search suggestions, there is no longer a suggestion to add a link to the missing page if there are any other search results. You can still do that by clicking "Insert" rather than picking from the dropdown, but the option only appears if there are no search results:

I think this probably resolves most of the problem?

When it comes to the behavior of the search, the issue is unchanged, but to me it looks like an intentional feature – it's probably some sort of autocorrection or grammatical stemming.

When you search for Cartilagine cricoidea, you do not get the page https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartilagine_cricoidea in the results: (there is a message that "a page by this name exists", but that is separate from search)

https://it.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=Cartilagine+cricoidea&fulltext=1

You can only find it if you search for "Cartilagine cricoidea" with quotes, to request an exact match:

https://it.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search="Cartilagine+cricoidea"&fulltext=1

MPhamWMF moved this task from needs triage to search-icebox on the Discovery-Search board.
matmarex claimed this task.

I'll go ahead and say this is resolved, per my previous comment. If you disagree, please reopen and say what is the expected behavior.
