Consider dropping "大马简体 (aka 中文(马来西亚)zh-my)"?
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Actually, I would say that zh-my is a useless variant code, unlike relations of zh-hk and zh-mo, there should have no tone problems between Singaporean Chinese and Malay Chinese, at least IMHO.

If someone said that zhwikivoyage and MediaWiki-extensions-Translate -based /zh pages are having zh-my options, then I'm wondering: why we can't learn zhwiki to merge this and "新加坡简体 (zh-sg)" to just say "马新简体 (zh-sg)"?

And, shouldn't we have a cleanup drive on Wikidata? There are also a huge scale of zh-my labels, descriptions, and alias (and perhaps monolingual text claims) existing on WD which looks like numbers of duplications of zh-sg.

Wouldn't it be easier to define fall-backs?

Useless, I just aim to fully drop a language option via this task

I would suggest first request for comments at https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:互助客棧/其他 in Chinese Wikipedia.

But it has no actual usages other than zhwikivoyage and /zh translations that created by Special:Translate, that's the main propose that I pointed here.

If someone really wanna use that language code (like what happened between zh-hk and zh-mo), then someone must promise to maintain it everywhere, in that case I or that user can just decline or invalid this, and I will not bump again.

Otherwise (i.e. if no one is interesting on that), then zh-my can just be a case of $wgExtraLanguageCodes and encourage external users to deprecate it:

[
    'zh-my' => 'zh-hans', // T156572
];

Looks like one local discussion happened at WP:VPD suggests to continue distinguish both?

self reject for now, that discussion is beyond my control.
