Enabling Flow in cawiki 'Viquiprojecte Discussió' namespace
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

After community feedback from here https://ca.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tema:Th6ev5tv2v9frdom we would like to have Flow enabled in 'Viquiprojecte Discussió' namespace (ns-103).
Would that be possible?

Thanks!

See T99117: Turn Flow on for Catalan's Viquipèdia talk namespace for Wikipedia_talk done in the past.

Monday at 20:00 UTC # , I will:

  • (time mwscript extensions/Flow/maintenance/convertNamespaceFromWikitext.php --wiki=cawiki 'Viquiprojecte_Discussió') 2>&1|tee --append ~/2017-03-06_cawiki_convertNamespacesFromWikitext_Viquiprojecte_Discussió.log
  • mwscript populateContentModel.php --wiki=cawiki --ns=103 --table=revision
  • mwscript populateContentModel.php --wiki=cawiki --ns=103 --table=archive
  • mwscript populateContentModel.php --wiki=cawiki --ns=103 --table=page
  • Deploy https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/340455/

Context: They currently have Flow on all of Wikipedia_talk. This is WikiProject_talk I believe (which doesn't exist on English Wikipedia, but there are wiki-projects there).

Thanks @Mattflaschen-WMF , Wikipedia talk namespace (which hosts pages such as editathons) already has Flow enabled for new pages. However, it was considered that also having Flow enabled in this other namespace could be of great benefit for encouraging contributions and discussion from newcomers.

The deployment will be done on Thursday March 2nd, during the 23:00 UTC deployment window.

Change 340455 had a related patch set uploaded (by Mattflaschen):
[operations/mediawiki-config] Enable Flow on 'Viquiprojecte Discussió' on cawiki

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/340455

It is now re-scheduled slightly for Thursday at 22:00 UTC.

Dear all, if still possible I would also request Flow to be activated in newcomers user talk pages, as commented in the cawiki thread. If preferable, I can open another task... And, just curiosity, is it possible for older users to enable this in their talk pages, archiving previous version? Thanks!

Yes please! :)

Anyone cas go to the preferences and select "Flow en la discussió d'usuar" to get Flow.
Unless if your idea is to have Flow for everyone, no exceptions? If so, we will require a broad community discussion/vote that approves that decision.

Thanks @Trizek-WMF . I'll open another task. So far the discussion was for new users...

So far the discussion was for new users...

that's what I've understood so far, but your community might have had open an other discussion I was not aware of. :)

Unfortunately, we were not able to complete this today.

There was a regression from 9d087957aebaa28900033211936497df29f9e99a (MaintenanceDebugLogger was accidentally removed from the autoloader). Fixing this proved more annoying and time-consuming than expected. (The script generating this autoload data was also broken, composer update is apparently not run on Jenkins so files were missing, Jenkins delay, etc.)

In retrospect, we could have just added it in manually, but I didn't expect it to take anywhere near that long.

That fix is now deployed, and the actual Catalan Wikipedia change is rescheduled for Monday 20:00 UTC.

The community is now aware of that schecule change.

Change 340455 merged by jenkins-bot:
[operations/mediawiki-config] Enable Flow on 'Viquiprojecte Discussió' on cawiki

Mentioned in SAL (#wikimedia-operations) [2017-03-06T21:02:47Z] <matt_flaschen> populateContentModel.php --wiki=cawiki --ns=103 run for revision, archive, page . T159047 complete

Done.

The logs look good, and both Flow and wikitext pages are accessible.

Confirmed - looks fine: the history pages for a new Flow board and for archived pages are correctly reflect the conversion actions.

QA recommendation: Resolve.
