Previews of some interwiki links do not work as expected in link inspector
Open, LowPublic1 Estimated Story Points

Description

As a user who is trying to preview if the link I've typed is to the correct target, if I click on the link-inspector's target preview, I am sent to the wrong page.
Only once I save the edit, will the link go to the correct target.

Input: [[toolforge:translate]]
Expected target: https://tools.wmflabs.org/translate/
Current result: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Toolforge%3Atranslate

Event Timeline

Ah, I think this might be related to the "Forward" [yes/no] specification given at the top of https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Interwiki ?

This is probably something in NWE since Parsoid does the right thing.

[subbu@earth parsoid] echo "[[toolforge:translate]]" | parse.js --prefix mediawikiwiki --normalize

<p><a href="https://tools.wmflabs.org/translate" title="toolforge:translate">toolforge:translate</a></p>

Ok, thanks for checking. I'll change the tag to VE then, with the hope that is correct. (I confirmed the bug in visual editor mode, and flow's visual editing mode. Not NWE.)

Esanders renamed this task from Previews of some interwiki links do not work as expected in parsoid preview to Previews of some interwiki links do not work as expected in link inspector.Sep 24 2017, 3:47 PM
Deskana moved this task from To Triage to TR1: Releases on the VisualEditor board.
Deskana set the point value for this task to 1.
Deskana subscribed.

I wonder if this is related to T165980, where links to the user page are incorrect in preview but are otherwise correct after saving.
