I think this is a good idea! One issue:

Maybe consider to have a link to the list of users on the number of thanks given.

That would violate existing privacy restrictions on thank data. Right now we have a thank log that exposes who thanked whom, but not what for.

It's not clear that the green stripe on the left represents a "thank". Might encourage participation if it says explicitly "Thanked X times", or thumbs-up with a counter.

The green stripe is only used to highlight any comment quoted: when you click on a mention, when you share a link to a direct comment, etc. Check that example. That green stripe is not related to Thanks.

Ok, that's unclear, no way to know that by looking. Maybe put a legend someplace on page?

I would go instead for better highlight. I've documented it on T192762: Better highlight a linked post on Structured discussions. I let designers think about it.
