Display whether Thanks has been given to a reply on Structured discussions
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Sometimes when you read a conversation on a Structured discussion Topic, you can feel that the topic is still open, or the discussion has ended rudely. Example:

User: A
Hey, I want to know how to do [thing]. How to?
User: B
Easy: do [explanation]

If user A thanks user B, it is not visible. Some people may think the reply hasn't been seen, or user A is rude.

The idea would be to show some thanks have been given. It is also a way to show support to an idea or an opinion.

Have a link to the list of users on the number of thanks given is not possible due to privacy reasons.

Aklapper renamed this task from See is thanks have been given to a reply on Structured discussions to Display whether Thanks has been given to a reply on Structured discussions.Nov 30 2017, 8:37 PM

I think this is a good idea! One issue:

Maybe consider to have a link to the list of users on the number of thanks given.

That would violate existing privacy restrictions on thank data. Right now we have a thank log that exposes who thanked whom, but not what for.

It's not clear that the green stripe on the left represents a "thank". Might encourage participation if it says explicitly "Thanked X times", or thumbs-up with a counter.

The green stripe is only used to highlight any comment quoted: when you click on a mention, when you share a link to a direct comment, etc. Check that example. That green stripe is not related to Thanks.

Ok, that's unclear, no way to know that by looking. Maybe put a legend someplace on page?

I would go instead for better highlight. I've documented it on T192762: Better highlight a linked post on Structured discussions. I let designers think about it.
