Description

In the course of the feedback round on the paragraph-based approach on deWP, a user observed a bug, which I am reporting here in case this is an underlying issue. If the issue is merely because of the fact that the prototype is per definition not yet a fully fledged feature, please close this task.

Issue: Added lines are placed at the wrong positions.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. I select the article “Hauspferd”.
  2. I delete all lines with "Taxon6" from the infobox.
  3. I add a letter both in “Taxon4_Rang” and in “Taxon5_Rang”.
  4. I add a new paragraph after the introductory text.
  5. I add one bullet point to the first bullet list.

This leads to the following wikitext:

wikitext.png (498×666 px, 84 KB)
Note: Shortened passages are marked with a grey background.

And this is the result in the edit conflict view:

edit_conflict view.png (1×2 px, 287 KB)
The arrows indicate where the text positions should actually be according to the wikitext.

And this is the article page (created in the simulation).

  1. “Hier ein neuer Absatz.”:

article_1.png (930×1 px, 403 KB)
The arrow indicates where the text position should actually be according to the wikitext.
This is placed in the same (wrong) position as displayed on the edit conflict page.

  1. “* Hier ein neuer Listenpunkt.”:

article_2.png (446×1 px, 384 KB)
This is placed at an entirely different position than in the wikitext or in the edit conflict page. The right position would be way further up on the page at the spot where “Hier ein neuer Absatz.” is shown in the screenshot above.

Hope that helps,
Johanna

Tested this on https://tools.wmflabs.org/wmde-editconflict-test/core/index.php?title=Spezial:SimulateTwoColEditConflict and couldn't reproduce. Lines are now shown in the right order:
