Warning to avoid creating duplicates of Lexemes
Open, HighPublic

Description

The cases where we should create different Lexemes with the same lemma, language and lexical category are very rare (but exists). It's likely that people will create duplicates, especially since the search is not working well at the moment.

We should create a warning on Special:NewLexeme, when someone is about to create a Lexeme that has the exact same Lemma AND language AND lexical category than another existing Lexeme. This should be warning the user, giving him a link to the existing lexeme so they can check, but not block them in the process of creating the new lexeme.

This could be a pop-up or something else appearing when clicking on "Create", saying "A Lexeme with the same lemma, language and lexical category already exists: LXXX. (with a link on LXXX) If you still want to create the current Lexeme, click on Create to continue."

Event Timeline

Here is a proposal of what the warning message could look like:

(sorry, I left my interface in French)

Looks great, thanks! I'll definitely add the link to this existing Lexeme, so people can have a look before deciding.
Oh and we should also be prepared that maybe several other Lexemes with the same features exist ;)

Yes for a link (I forget about it, shame on me) and yes too, for multiple lexemes (especially "tour"@fr will probably have 3 lexemes with the same features, for the equivalent of "tower"@en, "round"@en and "pottery wheel"@en).

Hangor and Ordia/Lexeme forms has this already. I use those to create lexemes because it is "safer" until this ticket is fixed. Unfortunately neither Hangor nor Lexeme forms support creating phrases or idioms yet.
