New staff page does not provide links to team / department pages anymore
Open, LowPublic

Description

The old wiki page at https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Staff_and_contractors offered links to pages of teams / departments.

That is not the case on the new page at https://wikimediafoundation.org/role/staff-contractors/

The only obvious contact option offered that I see is clicking a name, and then using the "Email" link on a profile. But private emails do not scale.

One example of many: "Communications" does not link to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communications
For more examples, see the old wiki page.

Event Timeline

We are looking into adding these in the future. However, before we do so, there needs to be more consistency across team/department pages - including each one having one - otherwise it sets up confusing expectations for the end-user when some have it but others do not and what you find on those pages varies dramatically. The On-wiki documentation working group will be looking at this in the future

@Varnent: Happy to hear that! Where can I follow such a task of the On-wiki_documentation_working_group and potentially provide input? (T115853: Every WMF engineering team should have a "Contact" section on its public wiki page feels slightly related.)

@Aklapper - The Meta-Wiki page is the best place for info on that group's activities as they evolve. For now, the focus is on completing the transition from the old website - so this task is likely months away. Our on-wiki documentation effort is ongoing (vs. a short-term project) - so there is no set end-date for these activities.

Relatedly, T201636: The staff page does not show teams/sub-teams anymore which makes it considerably less useful means that the "teams" as advertised by the new staff page (particularly under Audiences) aren't necessarily entities for which it makes sense to have a team page. Most of the Audiences sub-teams that are no longer listed separately on the staff page do have team pages, and most of the teams that are listed don't.

I don't see anything stalled ("If a report is waiting for further input (e.g. from its reporter or a third party) and can currently not be acted on") in this task, hence resetting task status from stalled to open.

(Smallprint, as general orientation for task management: If you wanted to express that nobody is currently working on this task, then the assignee should be removed and/or priority could be lowered instead. If work on this task is blocked by another task, then that other task should be added via Edit Related Tasks...Edit Subtasks. If this task is stalled on an upstream project, then the Upstream tag should be added. If this task requires info from the task reporter, then there should be instructions which info is needed. If this task is out of scope and nobody should ever work on this, then task status should have the "Declined" status.)

Removing task assignee due to inactivity, as this open task has been assigned to the same person for more than two years (see the emails sent to the task assignee on Oct27 and Nov23). Please assign this task to yourself again if you still realistically [plan to] work on this task - it would be welcome.
