Consider ways to make the article toolbar more visible to new users
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Why are we doing this?

3 of 5 new users trouble noticing the article toolbar during testing and therefore relied more heavily on the article overflow menu, and had a hard time figuring out how to add an article to a list

User story

As a new user of the app, I want to be able to know that the article toolbar is a place I can go to perform specific actions, such as adding an article to a reading list

Potential solutions

  • Make the Add to reading list message appear earlier
  • Show the toolbar when the user scrolls quickly either up or down
  • Change the color of the toolbar to make it more prominent when it is shown

@cmadeo - You proposed several solutions. Can you choose one based on our follow-up research, so that we can estimate?

@Charlotte the easiest would probably be to just show the reading list message earlier, but if it it wouldn't be too much work I'd like to experiment with showing the toolbar quickly up or down.

This has been tweaked so many times since - for example always showing the toolbar - and we no longer get these requests. Closing.
