There was a heads up in Tech News a few weeks ago, but will also post specifically on Commons.
This should have a rather small impact on Commons initially; not a lot of people will be invited and those who have will have been fairly vetted by having to have at least fifty unreverted edits in the feed (count restarts if someone is reverted).
The one thing we'll need to make sure we do is to properly contextualise this so folks know they're not supposed to just copy and paste the description (which almost never is, but could be copyrightable).
If you have any suggestions for copy that explains this, @Johan, do add it to T224051.
You can see the screens as designed here: https://app.zeplin.io/project/57a120b91998d8977642a238?seid=5ce57cdfa9ebc81e50c39d45
You can see that we have greyed out the "description" (the current unstructured caption) in order to discourage people from just re-using it.
Plan for how to engage with the community:
Contextualise this internally.
Wireframe the solutions for going forward with adding captions.
Post on Commons, link to our suggestions.
Take editor feedback into account (if there's editor feedback).
Reiterate (if there's editor feedback).
Pre-launch post on Commons.
Launch.
Post-launch post on Commons.
We'll make a new round of announcements next week, to remind the community this is happening.
