Investigate using Dashboard for Wiki Gap Challenge
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Look into how useful the Dashboard could be for the Wiki gap challenge.

Talked about it with @Eric_Luth_WMSE today – the problem is that we don't know in advance which wikis to track, since all are included. An alternative is for the users to assign themselves articles, as it seems they can do so freely regardless of whether the wiki is tracked or not. Test should be done to see if it really works as expected.

Event Timeline

Unfortunately this doesn't seem sustainable in an activity with multiple wikis (without knowing in advance which ones). First, you have to specify which wikis to track, which is hard since all wikis can participate. Then, since we can't have an article scoped program on multiple wikis, all participants' edits will be counted, both those in and out of scope of the event. Trying to figure it out after the event would take a lot of work, especially since the event will span across several days.

@Eric_Luth_WMSE @JosefineHellrothLarssonWMSE @Alicia_Fagerving_WMSE It would be great if the three of you could take a look at how we want to tackle this for future events of a similar style (Challanges rather then edit-a-thons). That can be broken out as a separate task but the conclusion above makes it clear that the Dashboard is not the solution and I don't want to resolve this without knowing alternative will be investigated.

Plan for an initial meeting task created. I'm thereby closing this task.
