General fixes moves {{short description}} out of [[WP:ORDER]]
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

As reported on my talk page, as per [[WP:ORDER]] the correct order is:

  1. Short description
  2. Hatnotes
  3. Deletion/Protection tags (CSD, PROD, AFD, PP notices) - etc.

However; as seen in https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dave_Walker&curid=154509&diff=945593802&oldid=941899669 AWB general fixes is changing the correct order to an incorrect order, by moving the hatnote above the short description.

This order was changed on July 15, 2019 in https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AManual_of_Style%2FLayout&type=revision&diff=906408183&oldid=906190242 by User:RexxS.

Discussion of the order can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style/Layout#Where_to_put_{{short_description}}

I'm concerned that this impacts all AWB bots, and hope that it can not only be fixed quickly, but a new version of AWB can be published quickly as well.

Thanks!

Event Timeline

Thanks for the report. I don't think it's urgent or crucial, but it would save some to-and-fro on-wiki as editors change back and forth between the two versions. Since applications that reveal the short description such as the "Wikipedia App" render it immediately below the article title and before any other content, I think it makes sense to match that order in the wiki-text. It's a small issue, but would benefit from attention at some point in the future.

In what way? It may have been fixed in the code base, but not releasd. That is the usual workflow.

Ah, okay, I see. Right, the last AWB update was in Sept. 2019, and this task was closed in March 2020. It is correct in the most recent snapshot. Thanks!
