Event Timeline

@Hsync7 Hi! Thanks for your participation. It looks like you have answered no to the question: "Have you contacted with project mentors already?" and I wanted to share that communicating with project mentors is one of the many steps and a crucial part of the application process. Also, that it is currently missing the point around patches/pull requests that you contributed to for Wikimedia projects during the application phase, etc. See the pre-populated template for the proposal in step 10 here: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code/Participants#Application_process_steps. There is no time left to do that right now; I still thought of highlighting it.

@srishakatux Hi! Thanks for highlighting that. I guess that I should not make any changes to this proposal now. Will the edited proposal be considered?

Respected mentors @kostajh & @Catrope
Please guide me about how I can start contributing to this project as I am already late for that.
Also I am not able to join freenode #wikimedia-contribution.

Hi @Hsync7, assuming that you have read about the project and the corresponding task, please also read https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_become_a_MediaWiki_hacker#Feedback,_questions_and_support and ask more specific questions.

Also I am not able to join freenode #wikimedia-contribution.

That channel does not exist. Please explain why you think that it would exist.

Thank You @Aklapper , I will ask more specific questions.
I asked about #wikimedia-contribution, because I came to know it from the Contact Me section on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/User:KHarlan_(WMF), or I thought so. I just realized that I misread that. The channel is #wikimedia-collaboration.

Pavithraes subscribed.

@Hsync7 We are sorry to say that we could not allocate a slot for you this time. Please do not consider the rejection to be an assessment of your proposal. We received over 100 quality applications, and we could only accept 14 students. We were not able to give all applicants a slot that would have deserved one, and these were some very tough decisions to make. Please know that you are still a valued member of our community and we by no means want to exclude you. Many students who we did not accept in 2019 have become Wikimedia maintainers, contractors and even GSoC students and mentors this year!

If you would like a de-brief on why your proposal was not accepted, please let me know as a reply to this comment or on the ‘Feeback on Proposals’ topic of the Zulip stream #gsoc20-outreachy20. I will respond to you within a week or so. :)

Your ideas and contributions to our projects are still welcome! As a next step, you could consider finishing up any pending pull requests or inform us that someone has to take them over. Here is the recommended place for you to get started as a newcomer: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/New_Developers.

If you would still be eligible for GSoC next year, we look forward to your participation!
