Tapping a discussion header with quotes does not open the discussion (anonymous users only)
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

I was looking at https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Deployments/Train_vs_backport&mobileaction=toggle_view_mobile on my phone while logged out.

Tapping on any of the discussion headers doesn't take me to the discussion. No JavaScript error is logged, but I noticed tapping on the header just appends more and more open-block classes to the div

Tapping on the headers does work fine as a logged-in user.

Event Timeline

Not sure if this is wikitech specific, but FWIW I cannot reproduce this on enwiki. Tentatively marking as high priority given the end user impact, although if it's just wikitech mobile users then maybe it's not as urgent.

I'm pretty sure this is the quotes in the heading and another variant of T230293

Noting that currently, for anons, there is no link or button directly to the talk page

Good point. However the way I got in this state is not especially unusual (on iOS anyway) – you get a notification email that something's changed on the talk page, tap the link, and on iOS the default behavior of the Gmail app is to open its own browser preview (where I'm not logged in) rather than Safari (where I am logged-in).

This feature should be obsolete when StructuredDiscussions is complete. Olga should this be declined or do we want to apply a short term fix here?

@ppelberg - any thoughts on this one? I'll go ahead and decline for now, but can definitely re-open if it's high priority from the editing perspective
