Exception trying to upload file to Commons Archive at commonsarchive.wmflabs.org
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

I got the following error trying to upload an NEF file to https://commonsarchive.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard

[91a4e3fd151af5cf6ade5c0d] Exception caught: No specifications provided to ArchivedFile constructor.

I tried with a DNG as well:

[da660c46c8f2716862ca3ad4] Exception caught: No specifications provided to ArchivedFile constructor.

I am sorry if this is the wrong place to post such as query but the "Leave Feedback" link forwarded me to this form.

Event Timeline

Hi @Askeuhd, thanks for taking the time to report this! Where exactly to find a "Leave Feedback" link?
I'm not sure how maintained commonsarchive is these days, or who could look up the stacktrace for that error on that instance...

Aklapper renamed this task from Error trying to upload to Commons Archive to Exception trying to upload file to Commons Archive at commonsarchive.wmflabs.org.Apr 21 2021, 7:17 PM

Thanks for the explanation.
Error message reminds me of T94562, T187491 but in any case, very first thing that should happen before investigating anything here would be to have a maintainer of commonsarchive.wmflabs.org make commonsarchive.wmflabs.org run recent, secure software versions. That website is currently running ancient unsupported software versions, see https://commonsarchive.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:Version . It also means that website is using a version of UploadWizard which at that time still had the "Leave feedback" link that you described. It has been removed in newer versions.

Thank you for your reply - that makes sense.

Is it reasonable to assume that a maintainer of commonsarchive will come across this task eventually, or is there something I should do, to bring this matter to their attention?

That displays it for a Toolforge tool (something.toolforge.org), for a Cloud VPS project (something.wmflabs.org or something.wmcloud.org) you want to look up the name on https://openstack-browser.toolforge.org/proxy/ and look at the maintainers (admins and users) of that project.

Which is the same https://openstack-browser.toolforge.org/project/commonsarchive

Upgrade was and still is blocked by T110460: Update OAuthAuthentication to use AuthManager

Is there anything I can do or contribute to help solving this issue? Thanks.

Aklapper changed the task status from Open to Stalled.Jan 19 2022, 7:37 PM

@Askeuhd: Improving the patch in T110460, I'd guess...

I got the same error while trying to upload CR2 files:
